Ahoy there, my name is Captain Liz. I am the owner and captain at Sterling Sails which is a woman owned and operated business in the San Diego Bay. Sterling is my middle name and has been in my family for generations. I am originally from North Carolina but I have fallen in love in love with California. I have been calling San Diego my home for 13 years. I began sailing about 23 years ago at a summer camp in North Carolina called Camp Seafarer.
Connecting with the sea through sailing has become my greatest passion. For a long time, I was a solo sailor single handing my vessel along the Southern California coast. I was often reminded how lucky I was to be able to live my life on a boat and thought about how cool it would be to share that peaceful feeling with others. As a self-taught sailor I learn more and more every day from friends, the sailing community, and being out on the water daily. 2024 makes 6 years of sailing in San Diego!
Enough about me, lets talk about the boat! The name of the vessel is
Mojave. The name Mojave is composed of two Indian words, aha (water) and macave (along or beside). Mojave translates to "along or beside the water," or freely as "people who live along the water".
Mojave is a 42 foot sailboat built in 1992 by Catalina Yachts. She's safe, beautiful, and my own personal dream come true. I look forward to meeting you soon so that Mojave can makes your dreams come true as well.
